One of my favorite things about walking around the city is seeing what the average Parisian wears- I love to see their outfits, how they layer, their variation in coats (that have lately switched from black pea coats to khaki trenches), the beautiful ways they tie and knot their scarves, and of course, their shoes: pointy-toed dress shoes or crazy, colorful baskets (sneakers) for men and heels and boots for ladies.ĭespite an overall chic aura in this city, I’ve noticed a few disturbing trends too. True story: some days, I walk down the street, feeling good about how I’ve put myself together until I see a French girl my age…and change my mind. Yes, you may be saying to yourself, “But Carrie is American…and fictional,” and I would agree, but we can’t argue with our dreams, can we? What I’ve discovered about Paris is that while yes, there are funky dressers, they are fewer than expected, giving way instead to the average Parisian who is much chicer than any of us Americans. ![]() Coming to Paris, I envisioned meeting funkified fashionistas on every corner I pictured a city full of Carrie Bradshaws floating through their everyday lives leaving the rest us breathless in the wake of their fantastical clothing creations.
